of Hadley Township.
Buf was born Nov. 8, 1944 in Waverly, Tenn., the first son of Dee and Esta Ethridge. The family moved to Michigan when he was 4-years-old. He graduated from Hazel Park High School in 1963 and joined the U.S. Army in 1965. Buf was a military policeman who served in Korea. When he finished military service and returned to Michigan, he became a real estate salesman and quickly rose to manager and director of training for Gallery of Homes in Hazel Park. Buf was certified to train all over the state of Michigan and beyond. He held a builder’s license and after 30 years in real estate he retired and put his natural talents to work building decks and numerous things for homeowners. He enjoyed working with his hands and producing items much enjoyed by their recipients. He had a natural affinity for children who affectionately called him “Mr. Buf.” Children would seek him out in a crowd.
Buf is survived by his wife of 32 years, Catherine Anne; his son, Nathan (Chi) of Stanwood, Mich.; his first wife, Brenda of Clarkston, mother of Nathan; two stepsons, Brian (Deanna) Terry of Warren and Daniel (Janice) Terry of Berkley; eleven grandchildren, Payton, Alyson, Jaxon, Laudon, Tison, Christina, Kyle, Brandon, Logan, Lilli, and Chloe; one sister, Gail (Ron) McLean; several nieces, Tammie, Sherrie, Donna, and nephews, Steve, Ted, and Ken. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dee and Esta Ethridge, and his younger brother, Tom.
Buf was loved by many and will be missed by all, especially his wife, Catherine Anne, and sons, Nathan, Brian and Dan. Buf was a wonderful husband and father.
A small, private memorial service is planned. The family requests that anyone wanting to honor Buf’s memory, do what Buf would have done-- tell the people that you really care about that you love them and they are important to you.
“Death is a separation and a loss of association. But the meaningfulness of a relationship is ongoing and is never lost. Whatever else immortality may be, that is part of it.” -Theta Burke.
