RUTH E. PURSLOW

Age: 90
PURSLOW, RUTH E., of Clarkston, died May 23, 2012 at 90 years of age. Beloved wife of the late Leslie Purslow, loving aunt of Robert (Jill) Linman, Janice (John) Gasidlo, John (Darlene) Gregory, Marilyn Oskin and Barry Purslow; dearest grandmother of Mark (Mel) Mathur. Mrs. Purslow was a charter member of the Calvary Lutheran Church of Clarkston. She served in the Women’s U S Army Air Corp. during WWII and also was a principal in the Clarkston Schools. Funeral service will be Saturday May 26, 2012, 11:00 AM at Calvary Lutheran Church (6805 Bluegrass, Clarkston). Pastor Jonathan Heierman officiating. Burial at Greenwood Cemetery, Fowlerville. Sally Chappell Leak

Died: Monday, May 21, 2012
Age: 81
Sally Chappell Leak, 81, of Suttons Bay, passed away Monday, May 21, 2012 at Munson Hospice House.

Sally was born in Oil City, Penn. on September 12, 1930 to Donald Moore and Frances Russell (Stickle) Stormer.

Sally graduated from Midland High School and Albion College. On June 21, 1953 she married David K. Leak who preceded her in death on February 21, 2011.

Sally enjoyed reading, cross-stitching, and going to antique shops and shows. She was a great mother, friend and will be greatly missed.

Sally is survived by her two sons, Brian David (Herma) and Scott Howard (Jeannine) Leak; two grandchildren, Nicholas (Jera) Donner, and Anneke Leak; a brother-in-law, Keith (Mary Ann) Leak; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Birtsas; and many other wonderful in-laws.

In addition to her husband and parents, Sally was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Keith Leak; and a brother, Donald Howard Stormer.

A private celebration of Sally’s life will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to the Suttons Bay/Bingham Library, P.O. Box 340, Suttons Bay, MI 49682. Arrangements are with the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay.

Daniel Joseph Katchmark

Died: Monday, May 21, 2012
Age: 72
of Ortonville

Daniel was born Aug. 19, 1939 in Detroit to the late Marion and Marcella (nee: Schlaff) Katchmark. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 30 years, Mary Katchmark; two sons, Daniel Katchmark II and Michael Katchmark; four stepchildren, John Marcoux II, DeeDee Fuller, Kathy Morris and Mary Hupp; two brothers, Robert and Tom (Mary Jo) Katchmark; and one sister, Margie (Mike) Sallows. Also survived by 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Daniel retired as a firefighter and arson investigator from the Detroit Fire Department. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1957-59.

Memorial service will be at 1 p.m., today, Saturday, May 26 at Coats Village Funeral Home, Ortonville. Family will receive friends from noon until time of service. ARNOLD T. JOHNSON

Died: Sunday, May 20, 2012
JOHNSON, ARNOLD T. of Davison; went home with his Lord and Savior May 20, 2012. Born in Detroit on July 13, 1924, the son of Arthur and Laura. He married Lois Jones on September 17, 1949. Arnold graduated from Royal Oak High School in 1943. He served our country during WWII in the U.S. Army with the 630th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He earned 5 Battle Stars, which include D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. He attended University of Detroit. Arnold was employed 38 years for Higbie Manfacturing as international project coordinator, retiring in 1992. He attended Faith Baptist Church, Davison. Husband of Lois for 62 years; father of Gail (Tim) Jahn and Gary (Sharon); grandfather of Courtney (Mike) Plotzke, 2nd Lt. Shaun Jahn, USMC and Christopher Johnson; great grandfather of Madeleine and Abigail Plotzke; brother of Arthur (Gertrude) and Ruth (Bill) Kostich; brother-in-law of David (Betty) Jones; also many nieces and nephews; preceded in death by parents, his twin brother Owen and sister Shirley Haughom. Funeral service Friday 10:00 a.m. at the Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Military graveside services White Chapel Cemetery, Troy. Shirley Ann (Amoss) Hawke

of Davison, formerly of Ortonville

Shirley was born April 13, 1939 in Livingston, Ky. to the late William Oscar and Ora (nee: Garnett) Perkins. She is survived by one daughter, Kimberly (Roger) Geistler; two sons, Thomas and Todd Amoss; two grandchildren, Sean (Melissa) Geistler and Riley Amoss; one great-granddaughter, Sidney Geistler; one sister, Bobbie Jean (Lowell) Harris; one sister-in-law, Carmel Perkins; and her dear lifelong friend, Nancy Crossno. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, William and Russell Perkins.

DONEY, Thomas William “Bill” ;of Davisburg; May 15, 2012; age 90; loving husband of Barbara for 62 years; dear father of Sandra (Mike) Eaton, Denice “Annie” Auten, Beverly Goralczyk and Bill “Willie” Doney; also survived by 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews; Bill was a veteran of WWII. He and his wife owned and operated Brandy Bar in Detroit for 23 years until their retirement in 1977. He was a member of Smith Old Timers and enjoyed wintering in Palm Harbor, FL. THOMPSON, George Clayton, Jr.; of Clarkston passed away May 13, 2012 at age 93. He joins his beloved wife of 38 years Ruth in Heaven. Loving father and Dad of Patricia VanOver of Coldwater, Robert Coy of Clarkston, Richard (Lori) Coy of Oxford and Amy (Kenneth) DeFord of Clarkston. Survived by 17 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren; (with one on the way), 18 great great grandchildren and canine companion Mac. Preceded in death by parents Mildred Barnett and George C. Thompson, Sr., sister Betty McDonald, sons Roy Ricco, James Coy and daughter Carol Ann Todd. George was born on June 30, 1918 in Punxatawney, PA and retired from Ex-Cello Heating and Beaver Precision. He was also known as Mr. George while he moonlighted weekends at Ted’s Restaurant on Woodward Avenue and he worked with the children at Clarkston Community Church. George was an avid softball player for Independence Township Senior Center and Clarkston Community Church teams. He was well known for speaking out about his World War II experiences in Clarkston Schools and was a favorite at the Clarkston July 4th parade proudly wearing his WWII uniform. LINGLE, Raymond L.; of Lewiston; May 12, 2012; Age 76; Husband of Jo Ann; Father of Matt (Cindy), Andrea Romano & Amy (Billy) Campbell; Grandpa of Meghan & Erika Lingle and Joey Romano; Brother of Gary (Connie); Also survived by nieces & nephews. A Pontiac High School graduate, Ray received a B.A. from Eastern Michigan University, was a member of Kappa Phi Alpha and completed two Masters degrees at Wayne State University.
