Concert band enthusiasts will get a double-dose of music this weekend in Lake Orion.

The North Oakland Concert Band (NOCB) is teaming with the Five Lakes Silver Band to host a free concert at Lake Orion High School's Performing Arts Center on Sunday, Oct. 30, at 3 p.m.

Travel adventures will be the theme of the concert featuring a wide range of musical styles, from traditional marches and movie music to classical and jazz. The NOCB is led by 26-year veteran conductor and Waldon Middle School band instructor Annette Kline.

The 80-musician, volunteer concert band has been providing free concerts to the local community for more than 34 years. Instrumentalists range from high school graduates to retirees.

"The concert is free to the public and it's a chance to get out of the house and enjoy music people may not have had a chance to hear before," Kline said. "People will be very entertained by the music. It will be a big venue with lots of sound, so you'll be able to hear and feel all of the instruments."

Kline said the audience will recognize the lineup of songs the two bands are performing. Harry Potter's theme song, Billy Strayhorn's Take the "A" Train, Robert Smith's Steamboat Race, and Kalinnikov's Symphony No. 1 are just a few of the songs to be played.

"The North Oakland Concert Band is one of the finest concert bands in this area of the country a hidden jewel within our community," said George Sinnott, an 11-year NOCB alto sax musician and two-year section leader. "It's really great music."

This is the first time NOCB has collaborated with the Five Lakes Silver Band, formerly known as the Oakland Brass Band. They will be working together on two pieces, the Kalinnikov symphony and the finale, Olympic Fanfare, by John Williams.

Lake Orion High School is located at 600 Scripps Road.
