October 26, 2011 - Trick-or-treating

Ortonville- Trick-or-treating will take place in the village from 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 31. The annual Halloween bonfire with cider and doughnuts will take place at the DPW building, 159 Cedar St., immediately following trick-or-treating.

During the hour of trick-or-treating in the village, the following streets will be closed: Church from Mill Street to Oakwood Road; Cedar Street from Mill Street to Ball Street; and Ball Street from Cedar Street to Church Street. No cars during that hour will be allowed in or out.

Farm lady

Margaret Schmidt, "The Farm Lady," will bring Roy the midget white turkey, to the Brandon Township Library from 7-7:45 p.m., Nov. 3 to entertain patrons. Lots of audience participation, including a harvest band performance for the grand finale. The library is located at 304 South St., Ortonville. Details: 248-627-1460.

Chris Cakes of Michigan

From 10 a.m.- 1 p.m., Nov. 5, Goodrich Area Schools PTO will host Chris Cakes of Michigan- as seen on Food Network at the Goodrich Middle School Cafeteria tickets are $7 and can be purchased in advance from any Goodrich school office children under 4 eat free. Details: Lisa Roark: 810-223-4032

Labor negotiations

The Goodrich School Board voted 7-0 to not renew the contract for labor negotiations with Saginaw-based Luce, Basil & Collins, Inc.

The cost to the district to keep the company on a one year retainer was $600.

John Fazer, district superintendent, said Tom Basil was utilized for arbitration, negotiations and fact-finding with regard for labor relations with the district's labor unions. Fazer also said Basil's services were used for labor grievances which would go on to the Michigan Employment Relations Commission. "The district will purchase services as needed," said Fazer.

Senior Thanksgiving Dinner

Volunteers are needed for assistance with the Annual Senior Citizens' Thanksgiving Dinner planned for noon, Nov. 8 at the Brandon Middle School, 609 S. Ortonville Road. The dinner is provided by the Brandon School District Food Service Department, but the district relies on the generosity of the community to provide support with door prize donations, table accessories, centerpieces, etc. A $1 donation is requested from each attendee to offset the cost of the event. Brandon Boutique & Craft Show

The Brandon Boutique and Craft Show will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Nov. 12 at Brandon Fletcher Intermediate School, 300 South St., Ortonville. Admission is $2 for those 12-years-old and up. Details: Brandon Township Parks and Recreation, 248-627-4640.

Chamber Business Expo 2011

Booth registration is open for the 10th annual Ortonville Chamber of Commerce Business Expo at the Brandon High School Cafeteria, 1025 S. Ortonville Road. Early registration ends Oct. 28.
