November 16, 2011 - Office closed

The Citizen newspaper offices will be closed for Thanksgiving, Nov. 24.The office will reopen Friday, Nov. 25. 248-627-4332.


Ortonville- The Ortonville Community Emergency Fund has families available for adoption.

The non-profit organization that assists families in need in the Brandon School District, is hoping area residents and businesses will open their hearts this Christmas and adopt a family to assist.

Families who register for holiday assistance complete a wish list for family members. Residents who are in more fortunate circumstances can makes those dreams come true by adopting a family or even just one person.

Hometown heroes

The Citizen is recognizing our local military men and women serving our country away from home during the hoilday season by publishing their names, photos, and some information on each of them. Coffee Club cancelled

The Oronville Coffee Club, which meets from 7:30-9 a.m., Wednesdays at the Brandon Township Library is cancelled on Nov. 23.

Thanskgiving service

At 6 p.m., Nov. 20, the Lakeview Community Church, 10023 S. State Road, Goodrich will host a community Thanksgiving service. All churches are invited to attend and the community is also invited to participate in the choir. Refreshments following the service.

Vietnam Mystery

Brandon Twp.- Shrapnel and stones from a Vietnam War battle are believed to have been mistakenly donated for the Ortonville Community Emergency Fund's annual rummage sale.

Suzy Fluck, rummage sale chairperson, is seeking the rightful owner to the items, which were discovered in a small plastic bag, accompanied by a note on which the date of "May 11 '69" was written, as well as the first name of a man who, according to the note, had received the Purple Heart. The note is written on a small piece of office stationery.

If you are missing these items, or know the owner, please call Suzy or Bob Fluck at 248-620-0176. Callers will be asked to identify the name of the Purple Heart recipient listed on the note.

Sounds of the Season

From 1-2 p.m., Dec. 3, the Brandon Township Public Library, 304 South St., Ortonville will host a free holiday concert by the Classic Winds. The ensemble will perform a variety of musical styles, from classical to popular hits, with an emphasis on original music for woodwind quintet. Refreshments will be served following the concert.
