It was hard to tell who was happier to be wandering the toy section at Meijer Oxford Village Police Sgt. Mike Solwold or his shopping pal for the evening, Wesley Walleman, 3, of Oxford. (click for larger version)
December 21, 2011 - Local kids received the opportunity to do some Christmas shopping Dec. 14 with area firefighters, police officers and military personnel as the Oxford Meijer once again hosted the "Shop with a Hero" event. The event gave 131 kids from Oxford, Addison, Brandon and Orion the chance to shop for Christmas gifts for themselves and their families.

Helping them shop were personnel from the Oxford Fire Dept., Oxford Village Police, Oakland County Sheriff's Dept., Lake Orion Village Police, Brandon Fire Dept., Orion Twp. Fire Dept., FBI Troy Office, Oxford-Addison Youth Assistance and the 1775th U.S. Army Military Police (Pontiac).

Viktor Paljusaj, owner of the 24th Street Sports Tavern, donated the dinner that was served to the kids and heroes prior to the shopping spree. Pepsi and Coke donated the pop, while the Oakland County Credit Union made a monetary donation to the event. Editor C.J. Carnacchio
