January 11, 2012 - Coffee hour

At 9 a.m., Jan. 27, The Citizen newspaper staff hosts a coffee hour at The Citizen office, 12 South St. Come join us for treats and conversation. Donations for the Ortonville Community Emergency Fund are accepted. Details: 248-627-4332.


STARS is an after-school reading support program geared to improve reading skills in second through fifth grade students. Sign-ups are now underway for STARS, which will take place from 4:05-4:50 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays Feb. 7 through March 15 at Oakwood Elementary, Room 31. Cost is $25. Coaches vs. Cancer

At 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Jan. 20, the Goodrich Boys Basketball team will host a Coaches vs. Game at Goodrich Goodrich High School, 8029 S. Gale Road. Goodrich. Avalon Hospice Volunteers

Goodrich, Hadley and Ortonville area hospice patients are looking for friendly people from the area to sit with them, watch movies, read to to them or just listen and share stories of the past or present. Volunteers with special skills such as beauticians, pet therapists or musicians are needed to share their talents and services. Volunteers will also be provided with the necessary training at a convenient location—to ensure the best possible volunteer experience.

Volunteer hours are flexible.
