Brandon Twp.- The Brandon Board of Education elected its officers for the 2012 school year during the annual organizational meeting Jan. 16. Kevin McClellan was elected board president; Debbie Brady is vice-president; Debbie Schummer is secretary; and Le Anne Schmidt is treasurer. Greg Allar, Kim Kulaga and Chris Yuchasz round out the board as trustees.

Brandon Twp.- Due to declining operating revenue, the library, 304 South St., is closed Fridays and Sundays. The library is open 9 a.m.- 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. Details: 248-627-1460.
Senior lock-in fundraiser
From 6-8 p.m., Jan. 24 a fundraiser for the Brandon High School senior all-night party will be hosted at Culver's, 6910 Sashabaw Road, Clarkston.

Wojo's packing party
From 10 a.m to 3 p.m., Feb. 11, Wojo's Greenhouse, 2570 Oakwood Road, Ortonville, will host their annual packing party with the Desert Angels. The store will accept donations from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday for anyone who wants to drop items off. Details: Lisa Kemeny, 248-627-6498.

Avalon Hospice needs volunteers
Goodrich, Hadley and Ortonville area hospice patients are looking for friendly people from the area to sit with them, watch movies, read to to them or just listen and share stories of the past or present. Volunteers with special skills such as beauticians, pet therapists or musicians are needed to share their talents and services. Volunteers will also be provided with the necessary training at a convenient location—to ensure the best possible volunteer experience.

From 7-8:30 p.m., Feb. 16, the Brandon Township Library will host the Seasoned Readers Book Club for adults or teens with adult companion.
Discussion will be about "Native Son" by Richard Wright. Set in Chicago in the 1930s, Wright's novel is just as powerful today as it was when written in its reflections on poverty and hopelessness, and what it means to be black in America.Details: 248-627-1461.
