Parks/rec. is having an 80s flashback

January 25, 2012 - The decade noted for big hair, shoulder pads and Pac Man is returning to Oxford for one night only, so put down your Rubik's Cube, strap on your Swatch watch and get ready to Wang Chung.

Oxford Township's Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a "Totally 80s Prom Night" at Devil's Ridge Golf Club (3700 Metamora Rd.) from 7-11 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11.

"It's going to be completely decked out in 80s style," said Recreation Developer Lauren Jacobsen.

Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite 1980s attire to help get in the spirit of things, dude.

"Whether it's a prom dress or your acid-washed jeans," Jacobsen said.

Gentlemen, dust off your stylish 'Members Only' jackets and aviator sunglasses.

Ladies, slip on those miniskirts and leg warmers.

A D.J. will be spinning all the great hits from the 1980s, while guests dance the night away.

Don't forget to brush-up on all the popular 80s dances including the Worm, the Cabbage Patch, the Roger Rabbit, the Sprinkler and of course, the Moon Walk.

Light appetizers will be served.

A cash bar will be available.

The cost is $15 for individuals and $25 for couples. This event is only for those age 21 and over.

Those who wish to attend are asked to please register by Wednesday, Feb. 1.

"They can register on-line, over the phone or in person here at the parks and rec. (office)," Jacobsen said.

The parks/rec. office is located at 20 W. Burdick St. next to the village offices.

Visit on-line at www.oxparkrec.org or call (248) 628-1720.

If registering on-line, please do not use a Commodore 64.
