February 29, 2012 - Clarkston High School Vocal Music Department hosts the International Championship of High School A Cappella Great Lakes Semi-Final, 7 p.m., Saturday, March 3, in the high school Performing Arts Center.

Clarkston High School's own Detroit Voice will compete against four other groups from three states in the vocal tournament for the chance to advance to the finals in New York City in April.

Groups sing popular music from Motown to Katy Perry.

"The best way to describe contemporary a cappella music is to imagine your favorite song from the radio and then imagine all of the instruments and instrument sounds produced by only the human voice," said Brian Haverkate, Clarkston High School vocal director. "These groups will amaze you with the sounds they are able to create."
