The spring application of chloride for dust control is set to begin May 14 on Atlas Township roads following grading by the Genesee County Road Commission.

The spring application is at no cost to the township directly the second application, in the fall, costs the township $40,929. This covers 39 miles of gravel/limestone roads with 38 percent calcium chloride spread at a rate of 2,000 gallons per mile.

In Brandon Township the Road Commison for Oakland County will provide chloride treatments at a cost of $65,848. The contract will include five applications to 17 secondary roads that are the most used, as well as four applications each to the remaining secondary roads. The first chloride applications will begin in May.

Siren testing

Oakland County will test their outdoor warning system at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 18.

All tornado sirens will be activated at this time to raise the severe weather safety awareness level of citizens and offer schools and businesses an opportunity to test their internal disaster plans. Don't panic.

Seniors recognized

During the April 3 township board meeting, the following volunteers were recognized for their efforts at the Edna Burton Senior Center: Annette Beach, Tim Hyde, Linda Person, Dan Miller, Bob Sloan, Christina Hughes, Gene Reynolds, Faye Bindig, Mary Lou Williams, Alice Noble, Corky Loftus and Jim McConchie.

April is volunteer recognition month.

Consumers Energy

A meeting regarding the possible extension of natural gas mains in Brandon Township is set for 7 p.m., April 10 at Brandon High School Performing Arts Center, 1025 S. Ortonville Road. Details: 248-627-4918.

Rocking & Raking

The annual spring Teens and Seniors, Rocking & Raking yard cleanup project will take place on Saturday, April 28. Any senior citizen or disabled adult can request yard clean up, windows washed and/or minor chores by notifying the Edna Burton Senior Center of the work you are requesting.

Spring Mixer

From 6-8:30 p.m., April 16, the Greater Ortonville Chamber of Commerce will host a spring mixer at O'Malley's Galley, 1595 S. Ortonville Road, Ortonville.All businesses are welcome to come and build relationships and network. The cost is $15 with RSVP to 248-627-8079 before April 11 or $20 at the door.

Support Our Library

A Support Our Brandon Library committee meeting will be at 7 p.m., April 16 at Fire Station 2 (Sashabaw Road just south of Seymour Lake Road). Volunteers are needed to help restore funds to the library. Details: Lois Robbins, 248-969-2518.
