April 18, 2012 - CERT turkey dinner

From 5-8 p.m., April 27 , the Brandon Community Emergency Response Team will host a turkey dinner at the Ortonville United Methodist Church, 93 Church St. Proceeds will be used to purchase equipment and protective clothing for CERT. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under. Details: Diana Kowalski, 248-613-1084.

Pub run

Starting at 4 p.m., April 28, In Motion Anytime, 4 N. Ortonville Road, will host the first annual Pub Run. Alcohol use or running ability not a requirement to participate. However, tube socks are needed. The event is free and reservations are required. The run will begin in the parking lot of In Motion Anytime. Details: 248-627-7020.

Skate Park volunteers

Beginning at 10 a.m., April 29, at the Skate Park, volunteers are needed to help install the new mini halfpipe. Carpenters, laborers, welders, battery powered drills, saw horses, saws, and wrenches are also needed. Lunch provided. Details: 248-627-4640.

Donkey basketball

At 7 p.m., May 4, at the Brandon Fletcher Intermediate School gym, 300 South St., Ortonville, the Ortonville Lions Club will present Donkey Basketball. BHS students will play the winner of the BHS faculty or Brandon firefighters and police teams. Tickets $6 in advance and $8 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at most Brandon school offices, during lunch hours or from Ortonville Lions members. Proceeds will benefit the Lions scholarship fund and local charities. A $5 per ticket 50/50 raffle will also be held during the event. Details: John Nivelt, 248-240-8064.

Investments

From 6:30-8:30 p.m., April 23, the Brandon Township Public Library, 304 South St., Ortonville, will host a plain-English investment presentation on the principles, processes, tools, and tactics used to structure a purposeful and well-diversified portfolio. Woman's Club

At 1 p.m., April 26, the Ortonville Woman's Club will host a meeting at the Edna Burton Senior Center, 345 Ball St., Ortonville to finalizing plans for the Annual Woman's Club Fashion Show. Lunch tickets for the fashion show luncheon are $8. Proceeds from the raffle and Fashion Show will be used for scholarships for Brandon High School seniors. Details: Rose Marie, 248-628-6378.

Yard sale

From 8 a.m.-4 p.m., May 12, Boy Scout Troop 139, will host a yard sale, at the Old Town Hall, 486 Mill St., Ortonville. Proceeds are for Relay For Life. Details: 248-444-7091.

Children's essay contest

Wojo's Greenhouse, 2570 Oakwood Road, Ortonville is seeking a short essay from children in the third and fourth grades explaining why their mother should receive flowers for Mother Day. Children in the first and second grades are welcome to write a paragraph.

Winners will receive a $50 Wojo's Gift card and will be announced May 7. Details: 248-627-6498.
