June 20, 2012 - Excited children throughout Clarkston made their way to Deer Lake Beach, June 8.

It was the School's Out celebration at the beach and, as a special treat, the Clarkston Area Optimists Club presented Ken Elwert, Independence Township Parks and Recreation director, a check for $50,000.

He noted the celebration wouldn't have happened without it as the donation helped with the $850 cost.

Plus, the donation would cover services and improvements to the beach.
