Many stray dogs are going to be comfortable, safe and healthy until they can find loving homes thanks to the hard work and caring of Oxford Girl Scout Troop 13400.

The girls did a service project for the K-9 Stray Rescue League in Oxford for which they collected 137 bundles of newspaper to be used at the kennel and donated a check for $682, all of which was derived from collecting returnable bottles and cans.

They also donated several hours of hands-on volunteer work at the group's kennel, which is located at 2120 Metamora Rd.

For their efforts, members of Troop 13400 received the Girl Scout Bronze Award, which was presented to them on Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Oxford Free Methodist Church.

"It's the highest award that a junior Girl Scout can earn," explained Troop Leader Jill Brzezinski. "It shows that they have made a promise to help others, improve their community and become the best they can be . . . To earn this award, they showed that they understood and lived by the Girl Scout law."
