May 29, 2013 - Kingsbury singing contest, country fair

As part of its 60th anniversary celebration, Kingsbury Country Day School is inviting everyone to showcase their singing talent by becoming a contestant in its K-Factor contest.

A cash prize will be awarded for first place. All ages are welcome to participate.

Registration begins Sunday, June 2 at 12 noon in the Justin A. Swartz Center on the KCDS campus (5000 Hosner Rd.) in Addison Twp. Only the first 10 eligible people in line will be accepted. There are no age restrictions for the competition. Participates must provide their own music, and are advised to keep their lyrics appropriate for young audiences. A $20 cash entry fee is required at registration.

The singing competition will be one of many activities scheduled as part of the annual KCDS Country Fair. There will be a pub tent, inflatables, an auction, a pot-of-gold raffle (where someone might win up to $10,000), chicken bingo, old-fashioned games, a pie-eating contest, geocaching, a petting zoo, food, and artisans and vendors.

Super Singers concert June 1

Super Singers from Clear Lake and Oxford elementary schools will be performing "Destination Rock," a musical that will take the audience on a rockin' journey around the world.

The show is scheduled for 12 noon Saturday, June 1 at the Oxford High School Fine Arts Center.

Students will be singing rock songs from Motown, England, L.A and back in time to the birth of Rock 'n Roll. They will be singing, dancing and acting to some of the best rock songs ever recorded.

Tickets will be on sale on Friday, May 31 at the OHS Performing Arts Center box office from 5-6:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 1st from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Ticket prices are $7 for adults and $5 for children. All Oxford students are admitted for free when accompanied by an adult.

The greater Oakland County Republicans are holding a meeting June 4 at 7 p.m. at the Orion/Oxford Eagles Club located (317 W. Clarkston Rd.).

The club invites you to attend a panel discussion on the Common Core Standard Initiative (CCSI), a highly controversial subject these days for parents and grandparents with children in elementary through high school.

Come early to the club before the meeting and enjoy a light meal from the Kitchen
