June 19, 2013 - The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) has closed Rochester Road to through traffic from Mack Road to the southern Leonard Village limits in Addison Township beginning in order to resurface the road.

The closure will be in place until approximately mid-September. At that point, the road will close from south of Mack Road to south of Lakeville Road for the second phase of the project.

Throughout the project, access will be maintained to all homes and businesses within the project.

The project involves placing four-and-a-half inches of new asphalt on this section of Rochester Road (seven-and-a-half inches of asphalt will be placed at the Lakeville Road intersection and south of Lakeville Road) as well as making safety improvements. The safety improvements include: paved shoulders, pavement widening on some curves, sight distance improvements, guardrail installation/replacement, upgraded signing and the installation of center-line rumble strips.

Drainage improvements also will be made including the construction of concrete curbs and gutters where needed.

While Rochester Road is closed between Mack Road and the Leonard Village limits, the detour route for through traffic will be Lakeville Road to Lake George Road to Leonard Road (West Elmwood Street in Leonard) and back to Rochester Road and vice versa.

The project is expected to cost approximately $5.6 million. Of that amount, $3.85 million will be paid for with federal funds, with RCOC paying for the remainder.

The work will be performed by the Angelo Iafrate Construction Company of Warren.
