July 03, 2013 - Nancy Gleisner did not order any medical equipment, but someone tried their best to convince her that she had.

She didn't fall for it and now the 76-year-old Oxford Township resident is sounding the alarm about a potential fraudulent scheme.

"It sounded like a new scam that's being perpetrated (against) seniors," Gleisner said. "I thought it would be a good idea to put a warning about it in the Leader."

Gleisner recently received a phone call from an unidentified man who told her he had some medical equipment that was supposed to be delivered to her home. He asked her when she would like to receive it.

Gleisner told him she didn't order anything and he said, 'Well, you must have because it's all been paid for . . . I'd just like to know when you'd like it delivered."

She refused to accept any deliveries and again told this man that she didn't place any orders.

"He said, 'Well, perhaps somebody in your family, who is concerned about your health, ordered it for you,'" Gleisner said.

Gleisner knew that wasn't true.

"I kept insisting that I didn't want anything delivered and he kept insisting that it was all paid for and asking me why I wouldn't want it," she said.

Gleisner said the caller never stated what type of medical equipment it was or the company he was supposedly representing. She noted the caller did know her name.

The next day Gleisner received a recorded message from a man with "the same voice," giving the same spiel.

If these calls are part of some scam, Gleisner wants local senior citizens to be aware of it and exercise caution about accepting any deliveries.

"I could see where another older person might think, 'Oh, that's nice, my son or my daughter ordered that for me,'" she said.
