Softball coaches resign, district seeks replacements

August 07, 2013 - Oxford High School's Athletic Department is once again on the lookout for two new coaches. Both freshman softball coach Katie Goetz and JV coach Anna Somers resigned due to family concerns, according to Athletic Director Mike Watson.

"Both Katie and Anna are capable teacher-coaches (and) both have responsibilities to their families and careers," he said. "It's sad to see them go, but I hope we can get them back in the program in the future."

By contract, Watson said they have to post the positions, but he'll be working with the coaching staff to attract quality candidates.

"It certainly isn't easy. The demands of being a parent are enough, but when you combine the demands of teaching in a high achieving school district, there is usually little time for coaching," he added. "It's a tough avocation with lots of time demands. We've built a strong softball program and I have no doubt, we'll attract strong coaches."

Trevor graduated with degrees in English and communications from Rochester College. He wrote for his college and LA View newspapers before joining The Clarkston News in May 2007.
