August 14, 2013 - With blue skies, plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the comfortable 70s, Friday was the perfect day to be outdoors walking a dog or two.

Or in Maria Wolbert's case, five.

The Oxford High School teacher was spotted walking five pooches along Red Barn Drive.

Four of the dogs – Ozzie, Pac, Rajah and Nanook – belong to Wolbert.

The fifth one, Spooky, is waiting to be adopted through the K-9 Stray Rescue League, an Oxford-based group for which she volunteers. Wolbert is fostering him.

Spooky is a 5-year-old Shepherd/Labrador Retriever mix.

"His mama died of cancer," Wolbert said.

Her death hit the poor pup pretty hard.

"For weeks, he wouldn't eat or drink. He just laid on the ground," Wolbert said. "He was so depressed."

The K-9 Stray Rescue League took Spooky in and restored his health, both mentally and physically.

"Now, he's ready for a family," Wolbert said. "He's house-trained. He's yard-trained. He loves people and small dogs."

Spooky is a well-mannered canine who only chews on dog toys and bones, not furniture. He can be calm and enjoy his naps, but he also likes to play, go for walks and eat up all the attention he can get.

Spooky is neutered and up-to-date on all his shots.

"He's completely healthy," Wolbert said.
