Arson suspected in township fire


Reward offered for information regarding blaze

August 28, 2013 - At about 8 p.m., Aug. 17, Groveland Township Fire Department responded to the 2000 block of Bald Eagle Lake Road following a report of smoke in the woods. Access to the fire was limited to a narrow trail through the woods to a small unoccupied cabin approximately 600-800 square feet. There was no electrical power to the structure.

When firefighters reached the structure it was completely engulfed in flames and a total loss, reported Steve McGee, township fire chief.

Oakland County Sheriff Detective Chip Schultz was notified and responded to the scene under suspicions the fire was intentionally set.

The Michigan Arson Prevention Committee offers a reward program of up to $5,000 for tips pertaining to an arson fire. Contact 248-858-5453 or 248-634-7722..
