October 09, 2013 - Trail cameras, commonly used to capture pictures of wildlife, recently helped police catch a home invasion suspect.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office announced Oct. 4 that Oxford Township resident Chadwick Adam Cartner, 27, was arraigned on charges related to a series of break-ins in Brandon Township and Independence Township.

A warrant was issued out of 52-3 District Court against Cartner for receiving and concealing stolen property over $200, but less than $1,000, punishable by one year in prison. A second warrant was issued from 51st District Court against Cartner for receiving and concealing stolen property over $1,000, a felony punishable by five years in prison.

According to police reports, on Sept. 24, an Independence Township resident whose home is located on Pine Knob Road said that a white male rang his front doorbell, and attempted to open the door when no one answered. The homeowner yelled through the door asking who he was looking for, to which the suspect replied, "Brian." He left after being told no Brian lived there.

The homeowner had trail cameras set up and captured pictures of the subject and his vehicle. Because of recent area break-ins, a search began for the subject and his vehicle. The next day the vehicle was located by an OCSO deputy in the mobile home park in Brandon Township, and listed to Cartner, who also had a warrant out as a parole absconder. His picture matched the trail camera pictures. The OCSO fugitive team and deputies arrested the subject at his Oxford residence, where evidence from three Brandon Township break-ins was recovered.

"Another solid case of heads up police work combined with a vigilant and well-resourced citizen," said Sheriff Michael Bouchard. "Our best partnership is always the community, combined with law enforcement partners and diligent investigative work."

Cartner was given a $25,000 cash surety ten percent bond at each arraignment with GPA tether and drug testing upon release.
