A 41-year-old Brandon Township man is in Oakland County Jail awaiting extradition to California on a murder charge.

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies, accompanied by detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office, arrested Charles Patrick Leppan at his home in the 3800 block of Cherry at about 12:10 p.m., Oct. 13, according to OCSO reports.

The detectives were in possession of a warrant for Leppan in connection with the murder of his ex-wife, Jean Lizette Farrias Leppan. According to news and police reports, Jean Leppan, 33, of Yucca Valley, disappeared in January 2004 while she was living with her ex-husband and attempting to reconcile. Charles Leppan never reported her missing. Skeletal remains discovered months later in the desert by a passerby and his dog were identified through dental records as those of Jean Leppan.

Charles Leppan was at that time a Marine stationed at Twentynine Palms, 22 miles east of where the body was discovered in the desert. He was arrested for investigation of murder at that time, but was released shortly thereafter when the district attorney decided not to file charges.

On Sunday, police were accompanied by a San Bernardino district attorney when they arrested Charles Leppan in the Clarkston Lakes Mobile Home Park. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Independence substation, where the San Bernardino detectives interviewed him before lodging him at the Oakland County Jail, pending an extradition hearing.
