January 22, 2014 - The Oakland County Sheriff's Office has reported a bus driver in the Brandon School District was assaulted by a 16-year-old student.

The assault reportedly occurred at about 2:30 p.m., Jan. 20, when the suspect boarded the wrong bus and the driver asked the student to exit the bus. A verbal confrontation ensued, which led to a physical altercation in which the 62-year-old male bus driver was assaulted and elbowed in the nose, causing a bloody nose. The victim was treated at the scene by Brandon Fire Department medics and refused any further medical treatment.

The incident was not immediately reported to the sheriff's office. OCSO released the report to media Jan. 24. Undersheriff Michael McCabe did not immediately return a call for comment.

Superintendent Lorrie McMahon said the district policy is to not comment on student or staff-related incidents.

According to the police report, the suspect, a Brandon Alternative High School student, is suspended from school pending investigation. Witnesses are being interviewed and the case will be reviewed by the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office for possible charges.
