January 29, 2014 - Library to host open house Feb. 8
The Oxford Public Library (530 Pontiac Rd.) will hold an Open House to introduce its new Literacy & Special Needs Collection and Play 'n' Learn Zone on Saturday, Feb. 8 from Noon until 3 p.m. Children and their families are welcome to come and test out dozens of new toys, board games, and other learning tools.
The Literacy & Special Needs Collection is a combination of toys, games, flashcards, story boxes and other materials that patrons may check out and take home. Each item targets different skills such as auditory, visual, language, fine motor, gross motor, thinking and social skills.
The Play 'n' Learn Zone is an area within the Youth Department where children can play with a wide range of educational toys.
Enrollment, free vision screenings for kindergartners
February is kindergarten enrollment month for the Oxford school district.
Pre-enrollment can be done on-line through www.oxfordschools.org
Parents are instructed to bring all the required documents to the district's central office at 10 N. Washington St. in downtown Oxford. Documents include two proofs of residency, original birth certificate, health appraisal completed by a doctor, immunization records, vision test and driver's license.

The Oakland County Health Division offers free vision screening for all county children entering kindergarten. This screening is required under state law. To make an appointment, call (248) 424-7070.
The Oxford Public Library Friends is auctioning several book-themed baskets, each containing a new or gently-used book, plus items that go with that book.
Baskets will be available for bidding at the library (530 Pontiac Rd.) from Jan. 29 through Feb. 12. Proceeds will benefit the library and its patrons.

The Oxford Wildcat Athletic Boosters Club will host a Euchre Night fund-raiser on Friday, Feb. 7 at the Burning Oak Smokehouse (595 S. Lapeer Rd).
Registration is limited to the first 80 people and begins at 7 p.m.
Pre-registration is encouraged.
