March 05, 2014 - Brandon Twp.- A door-to-door campaign is heading soon to Connell and Hummer Lake roads.

Supervisor Kathy Thurman hopes to be joined by volunteers interested in raising the number of applications for Consumers Energy service in phase 3.

"If anyone is interested in helping, they can give me a call," said Thurman. "We've done door-to-door campaigns with phase 1 and 2 and it was effective."

Consumers Energy still requires 100 more sign-ups for service in order to release all of phase 3 in a gas main extension project that began three years ago. In phase three, applications were sent to 855 homes and as of this week, only 327 were returned, short of the 50 percent participation set for complete release of the project. In January, Consumers said it would release some of the roads in the project area, including Oakwood, Briar Ridge, Presidio, Freedom Trail, Lockwood, Poli, Sumac, Wallace Trail, Wallace Boulevard, Green Creeks Lane, Sunkist Drive, W. Davison Lake, Davison Lake, Justice Drive, Liberty Lane, Sinroll Lane, Hollyhock Lane, N. Sashabaw, Woodpoint, S. Hurd, N. Hurd, Burt Court, Willow Hollow, Oak Ridge Trail, Middleton Court, Shipman, N. Coats, LeGault, Silver Birch, Big Fish Lake and Connell.

However, not all homeowners who have applied for service will get it, including those on parts of Connell and Hummer Lake roads, unless the 50 percent participation goal is met.

Natural gas main installation began in Brandon in 2012, with more than 225 customers signing up for phase one. Construction of the second phase included more than 380 customers and was completed in December. Construction on the third phase will take place this summer and should be completed by the end of the year.

Residents that need an application or have questions regarding the project can contact Consumers Energy at 1-888-427-6246.
