Racers for kids

May 21, 2014 - Runners and walkers braved cloudy skies for the sixth Annual Chuck Keegan "Race for the Kids," May 3.

Proceeds from the 5K race provide scholarships to Clarkston students, and honors the late Chuck Keegan, Clarkston Junior High teacher and track coach.

"Chuck had an unbridled passion for his profession, his friends, and his family; his legacy lives on in all of us," said organizer Mike Greve.

"Special thanks to our sponsors A+ Teacher's Store, ATS Project Success, Clarkston Auto Body, Fitness Quest, the Clarkston Foundation, Gott's Auto Service, Graphmark Services, Health Quest, The Learning Experience of Clarkston, Planned Financial Services, Plaza Beauty Supply, the Powers' Family, Rogers' Chiropractic Center, Runnin' Gear, Salon Williams, Simply Natural Health Foods, Sports Creations, Waterfall Jewelers, and Waterford Hill Florist and Greenhouse."

Local businesses providing support included Dunkin' Donuts, Leo's, Pizzeria Dolce, and Tropical Smoothie, he said.

"Amy Ankrom, Jim Berman, Ray Cooper, Denise Hill, Claudia Keglovitz, John Merz, Susan Powers, Michele Przybylski, Bill Rathburg, Debbie Sabo, Alex Sennabaum, Debbie Shotwell, Jim Tedder, and Janet Thomas were instrumental in planning and staffing this event. Several Clarkston Junior High students also volunteered their time," he said. "Lastly, thanks to the Keegan family for their continuing support of both our students and this event."
