July 09, 2014 - Gamers can test their skills by maneuvering real robots through a non-virtual obstacle course at Saturday's ROBO-CON event, slated for 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. July 19 at Lapeer's Center for Innovation (Lapeer West High School), 170 Millville Road, Lapeer.

There is no admission fee for the event, where participants can try to beat a robot in disc-throwing and hoop-shooting contests, as well as see student-built robots on the game field, including robots created by Ortonville FIRST Robotics Team 68, Truck Town Thunder.

Look for the flying robot quadcopter, a soap box derby practice track, a giant slingshot, selfies with the "Lost in Space" B9 robot, prizes, and other fun. Woodchips BBQ of Lapeer will also be selling food on site. "Geek costumes" are encouraged.

ROBO-CON is hosted by the Chimeras Lapeer Robotics Team 1684, with the support of Cypress Computer Systems and Lapeer Community Schools. Details: http://FIRST1684.com.
