August 27, 2014 - Efforts are still underway to help Lake Orion resident Taylor Woityra who is struggling with medical expenses, as she suffers from complications in her battle against Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Woityra, 21, was found to have Hodgkins Lymphoma shortly after having a baby in December. When she was undergoing chemotherapy in July, complications set in causing severe pneumonia and other complications.

She was taken to a hospital and then airlifted to University of Michigan's hospital. There they discovered she had pneumonia and some elements in the chemotherapy caused some other serious issues. She remains at U-M hospital and is not expected to return home for a few months.

"She could be there until Christmas," said dad Chris Woityra.

The good news is that Taylor is improving daily, even though it is sometimes difficult to see. She still has chest tubes on both sides of her body.

Taylor is a lifelong resident of Lake Orion and attended Lake Orion schools.

Chris Woityra, said the money received during a fundraiser at Leo's Coney Island is a big help and the family hoped for additional assistance and has plans for more fundraisers in the coming weeks and months.

He said the expenses seem overwhelming at times. The fact that Taylor needed to be airlifted to the University of Michigan Medical Center in order to save her cost more than $20,000.

He said the family is grateful to everyone in the community who have been generous with their time and money.

During the event at Leo's, PX2 Automotive, Forrester's Car Wash, MMB graphics, World of Beans, Glitz, Mr. C's car wash and Le Nails donated products, gift cards and coupons that were auctioned during the fundraiser.

The event raised a total of $3,340.

The family has established a site at gofundme.com/ccuwog for those who want to help.

In a prior story, Taylor Woityra's mother was incorrectly identified as Bridget Woityra. Her name is Bridget Rankin.
