October 26, 2011 - Dear Editor,

On behalf of the Brandon Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), I express our thanks to the Ortonville United Methodist Women for their efforts in preparing the food for our fundraiser dinner held on Oct. 21. Their generous donations assisted us in obtaining equipment and inclement weather clothing for our operations in support of Brandon Fire Department and other community activitiessuch as the Brandon High School Band Competition, Halloween Trick-or-Treating and Christmas in the Village.

I also express our appreciation to the citizens of our community for their support and response to our fundraising dinner. We were able to raise $870 toward the total cost of approximately $4,000 for the clothing package. A previous donation by the Lions Club is also earmarked for purchase of winter protective clothing for CERT. Again, we appreciate the support of our community organizations and individual citizens.

The Brandon CERT receives no tax monies from the village or township and must raise its own funds to purchase necessary equipment. All team members are volunteers and receive no monetary compensation for their work. Anyone wishing to donate to, or join CERT may contact Lee Stewart at 248-627-3324.

Lee Stewart

President,

Brandon CERT
