December 14, 2011 - Dear Editor,

On Dec. 9, the Old Newsboys of Flint, an organization that brightens the holidays for children across Genesee County, conducted their 87th annual Christmas newspaper fundraiser. Once again, the good people of Goodrich, its surrounding neighbors and those who make the daily drive through, gave generously to the cause. More than 1,000 donations totalling $2,830 was collected at the M-15 and Hegel Road intersection. The donations are used to provide children that might otherwise go without, a present under the tree for Christmas.

Several times those donating commented, "I remember Old Newsboys as a kid. If it weren't for them, I wouldn't have had a Christmas."

The volunteers thank all those who donated, along with local businesses John's Steak House, Marathon, Church and Son and Subway for their support. Also thanks to Lucy's Pet Supplies for folding the newspapers. The volunteer crew this year included: Lynn and Dave Hoffman, Patrick Hoffman, Larry Flood, Bill Brothers, Mark and Mel Trowbridge, Julie Ryden, Mike Wallis, Jim Mitchell, Bob Slade, Jim Slade, Carroll Fergison, Sue Wedda, Shannon Mashburn, Dave Swanson, Larry Schuster and Tim Fizzell.

Look for them next year on the second Friday of December.

Mark Trowbridge
