March 14, 2012 - Curious boys at Springfield Plains Elementary used skills they just learned from author Terry Foster as they began adding questions.

Foster, writer for The Detroit News and radio host on 97.1 FM, taught the students in grades 3-5 how to use questions to gather information and other skills, March 1.

The boys asked what was his favorite Detroit Lions' story.

"Oh, no," Foster shook his head. "I always get in trouble when I write about the Lions."

But he finally surrendered his answer to the eager boys and said it was about when Matt Millen was coming to Detroit.

His visit was to build interest in the students about writing by giving them tips on how to get started, how to build onto their writing with details and how to battle writer's block.

"We all have writer's block," he admitted.

Foster also visited for March is Reading Month and shared how writing and reading go together.

"He fell in love with writing," Lars Covintree, physical education teacher at Springfield Plains, said to the eager audience. "We hope you get a passion for it, too."
