Clarkston Wolves race into first place

May 02, 2012 - The Lady Wolves leaped over obstacles and ended last week with a bang - taking first place at the Titan Relays and defeating their crosstown rivals Lake Orion in a dual meet.

The Clarkston Girls Varsity Track & Field team scored 108 points at the Titan Relays, taking first place out of eight teams.

Jill Harris, Natalie Smith, Molly Jeffers and Erin Billette took first in the 3,200-meter relay as the Lady Wolves took second place in eight events.

The girls won their meet against Lake Orion, 101-27. They swept two events - the shot put with Kayle Sherwood taking first, Taylor Beach, second, and Kristen Robinson, third; and the high jump, Anna Manilla in first, Tessa Manilla, second and Brooke Huisman, third.

They also took first place in 15 events. Sherwood led in the discus; Anna, long jump and 400-meter dash; Maddie Wilson, 100-meter hurdles, 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash; Franzi Loetzner, 300-meter hurdles; Smith, 800-meter run; Kaitlin Catania, 1,600-meter run; Billette, 3,200-meter run; 3,200-meter relay team; 800-meter relay team; 400-meter relay team.

The boys team took second place during the Titan Relays with 95 points and Stevenson took first scoring 131.

The boys took first place in four events, the high jump with a combined effort from CJ Godzor, Mike Schwartz, Allen Gray; the long jump, Jacob Turner, Caine Watlington, Merrick Canada; the 3,200-meter relay, Ian Brennan, Austin Draving, Spenser Pawlik and Adam Bruderick and the DMR, Jared D'Autremont, Pawlik, Brennan and Draving.

Both teams combined to take first in the Titan Relay event with Pawlik, Billette, Draving and Catania.

The boys lost their first meet to Lake Orion, 75-53.

They took first place in six events. Taking first was Colin Kupper in shot put;Matt Wright, discus; Turner, long jump; Gozdor, high jump; Blake Sutherland, 400-meter dash; and Bruderick, 800-meter run;

Both teams competed on Tuesday against Oxford and the freshmen head to the Ninth Grade Invitational at Pontiac on Thursday. On Friday, the boys team heads to the Bay City Western Invitational and the girls head to the Saline Invitational.

Wendi graduated from the University of Michigan-Flint with a degree in communications. She wrote for the Michigan Times college paper and Grand Blanc View before joining The Clarkston News in October 2007.
