June 13, 2012 - June 6 saw 6'8" high school basketball player Brad Watterworth sign a letter of intent to play for Lawrence Tech's newly formed team.

The LOHS senior sat in front of friends, family and staff receieveing praise from all - including Lawrence Tech Coach Tom Kempf who said Watterworth would be the cornerstone of Lawrence Techs new efforts in the sporting arena.

Watterworth's former coach and current coach of LOHS's basketball team (which fell just shy of a state match this year) Tom Risi had kind words to say as well.

"When I first met (Watterworth) I was sitting there while I watched him almost rip a rim off the backboard," he said. "I asked him if 'that kid got a lot game time' and he told me no. I thought 'that's going change.'"

He added that Watterworth set an example on and off the court, "never gets in trouble" and that he was the perfect candidate to represent Orion at Lawrence Tech.

Watterworth chose Lawrence Tech for it's engineering program.

"I'm feeling good - I'm excited," he said. "I looked into the engineering and I had a lot of schools to look at but that's what pushed it over the edge."

Watterworth has played basketball since second grade. He played a key role in the Dragons' rise to school history in the 2011/12 basketball season, when the team took their first ever distirct title. Watterworth was key around the net in particular due to his height, offering him superior control around the net.
