Rush for food, Aug. 17

August 08, 2012 - Time to go grocery shopping and stock up for a good cause.

The Clarkston High School Football program is collecting food on Friday, Aug. 17 for their 15th Annual Rush for Food.

The Freshman, JV and Varsity football players will collect non-persishable food in local neighborhoods for Lighthouse Emergency Services in Independence Township to build awareness of a community need, promote team unity and give back to the community that supports them.

They will collect from neighborhoods from 6-7 p.m. and at Lighthouse, 6-7:30 p.m.

Last year, the gridiron gang collected over 4,900 pounds of food. They have set their goal to collect over 4,800 pounds of food this year.

This event is organized by a parent volunteer committee, with support of the CHS football staff. They thank the Clarkston Athletic Boosters, Clarkston Chiefs and Kroger on Sashabaw Road for donating supplies.

The neighborhoods the players are driving through from 6-7pm for donations are: Almond Lane/Pinevalley, Autumn Shores, Birdland, Boyne Highlands, Bridge Lake Bluffs, BridgeValley, Chestnut Hills, Deerwood, Glenwoods, HarborTowne, Hills of Kingston, Lake Waldon Village, Manors, Middlelake, Oakhurst, Old Pond, Peacefulvalley, Pebblecreek/King, Sashabaw Creek Meadows, Sashabaw Ridge, Sheringham, Softwater Woods/Ingomar farms, Spring Lake, Waldon Creek and Wyngate.

They try to cover as many neighborhoods as possible; however, they are unable to send groups into every area.

If they will miss you, please leave your donation in a labeled paper bag on the front porch or bring your donation labeled "Rush for Food" from 6:30-7:30pm so it can be part of the weigh-in.

You are also welcome to drop off your donations directly to Lighthouse Emergency Services during their business hours or from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Aug. 17 marked with Rush for Food/Clarkston Football.

Lighthouse is located at 6330 Sashabaw Road. For more information, please call 248-620-6116.
