September 19, 2012 - Lake Orion continued it's dominating win streak with a crushing 42-7 victory over Rochester Stoney Creek on Sept. 14.

The game started almost immediately in Orion's favor when senior Nick Booker put the Dragons on the scoreboard in the opening play with a 90 yard kickoff return. From there, Orion took another 195 yards (285 total, 188 rushing, 97 passing) while holding the Cougars to less than 150 yards total. This let Orion once again play nearly their entire team.

"It's a great situation to play so many kids," said head coach Chris Bell. "Everyone comes out and works their tail off and it's great when they all get to participate. In the tougher games down the stretch, we're not able to do that as much as we'd like."

Bell added that the game against Stoney Creek was the most complete victory the Dragons had yet in the 2012 season. He said Stoney Creek was a decent opponent that the Dragons dominated offensively, defensively and in special teams. The Cougars ran a spread offense that relied on misdirection and options, but thanks to Orion's aggressive play and discipline, Orion was able to almost completely shut down Stoney Creek's drive.

Senior running back Jacob Miller led the charge with three touch downs on five carries and 82 rushing yards, while junior up-and-comer Chris Leigh took 67 yards rushing and one touchdown on seven carries. Senior wide receiver Chaz Miller received five passes for 76 yards and one touchdown while senior starting quarterback Derek DeLaura completed seven of eleven passes for 97 yards and one touchdown.

But despite the solid performances, Bell said the team is not going soft.

"We can't afford to rest on our laurels," said Bell. "Troy is going to be better than Stoney Creek. We expected Stoney Creek to be a closer game but our kids got on top of them and blew it open early. Our guys did a great job doing their jobs."

Last year the Dragons won their game against Troy 17-7. Bell said he expected the Red Hawks to give the Dragons a good game.
