October 10, 2012 - Runners in the Girls Cross Country team took second place at the Oakland County Championships last Saturday with 138 points.

Nicole Hanson led the way as she finished in ninth, at 19:08. Lynsie Gram took 16th and Erin Billette took 28th place.

The boys finished in 20th with Dan Billette leading. He finished in 19th place at 16:46.

Both teams head to Gabriel Richard at Hudson Mills this Saturday.

Clarkston Varsity Girls Volleyball team topped two league opponents last week.

They opened with a 3-0 win over Oxford, 25-27, 25-21, 26-24. Rachel Dickerson Emily Popp had 28 digs, and Katie Chadwell had 12 kills.

They also beat Troy, 3-0, with 25-13, 25-23, 25-20. Sarah Bullen 12 kills and five, Dickerson had 14 kills and Popp had 17 digs.

The team went 3-2 at the Marian Tournament on Saturday. They lost one game in their pool play but came out of the pool seeded first. They beat Troy and Portage Central.

"Portage Central was a good one for us because they are ranked as one of the top teams in Class A," said Coach Kelly Avenall.

They beat Seaholm in the quarterfinals but lost to Mercy in the semifinals, 2-1, 25-27, 25-12 and 11-15.

Dickerson had 43 kills and 37 digs, Popp had 67 digs, and Brianna Frakes 9 aces and 99 assists.

The girls are now 35-5-1, 5-0 OAA

They head to Rochester on Thursday, Beast of the East on Saturday and are home on Tuesday against Adams. JV starts at 5:30 p.m., varsity follows.

The girls swimming team beat Holly last week, 148-38, and took fourth at the Oakland County meet on Saturday. They head to Adams this Thursday, 6 p.m.

Clarkston Boys Soccer teams hold their last home games this Friday against Rochester, JV at 5:30 p.m., varsity follows.

The varsity begins district playoffs with the first round against Davison at home next Tuesday, 7 p.m.
