The Lake Orion varsity girls and boys bowling teams wrapped up their first match of the season with victories.

The girls won, 29 to 1, while the boys won, 24 ˝ to 5 ˝, topping Troy High School.

Head Coach Kevin Crowther could not have been more thrilled.

"It is still early on in the season to tell the talent," Crowther said. "But we're doing what we expected. The boys match seemed like it was pretty lopsided but it was actually really close. In the end, our talent came through to show that we were the better team."

The girls won in a lopsided fashion.

"Troy is a pretty young, inexperienced team," Crowther said. "We're a pretty good team and our girls bowled really well and in the first team game and at that point it was over."

According to Crowther, in the game of bowling, it's a race to see who can make it to 15 ˝ points first, and on December 6th, the Dragons won that race.

"Bowling's a little weird when it comes to score because sometimes people with not necessarily the most talent put up big scores," Crowther said. "Big score doesn't mean big talent. We look at spare conversions, first ball accuracy, and coachability, to try to get a gauge of what we want out of our athletes."

As the bowling team moves on to face Troy Athens on December 13th, this game will give Lake Orion some extra practice to prepare for their upcoming, difficult schedule.

"After next week's match (against Athens), we get into the rough part of our schedule," Crowther said. "I look forward, at the beginning of every season, to the Oakland County Championships, in mid-January, where we get to see every school in Oakland County and catch up with coaches and players from other teams and see how their season is going. After that we look forward to the regional meet and moving onto states."

Even though the season has just begun, the Dragon bowling teams were off to a great start, with their first win.
