January 23, 2013 - Nominated by his varsity hockey coaches for athlete of the week, Senior Captain Adam Johns has been a stalwart leader on defense for the past four years.

Johns is the only senior on the squad who is a veteran of this many campaigns.

Bryan Krygier, his head coach, credited Johns with strong leadership skills.

"Adam trains harder than anyone on the team and leads by example," he said. "He is not afraid to give solid advice to the young players when he thinks they need a little bit of encouragement."

Johns' leadership on and off of the ice was clear at the beginning of the season when he commented on the potential of the combination of new and returning players on the team.

"Our strengths are our speed, our physical play and our chemistry," he said early in the season.

Johns continues to lead by example as the boys head into the last round of OAA Red games against Lake Orion and Stoney Creek in the next week before going into the league playoffs.

Little did Johns know a pair of ice skates he was fitted for at the age of two and hours of pond hockey skating would lead him to this important leadership role on this year's varsity hockey team.

He joined organized hockey when he was five years old and played for travel teams most of the time.

Being athletic is just part of the family genes, he explained. His older sister was a star for the Clarkston High School Girls Track and Field team. In addition his cousin, Trevor, was also one of the top scorers for the Wolves hockey team in the recent past.

Johns currently has a 3.2 grade point average. His favorite subject at the high school is Forensic Sciences, which is also taught by his favorite teacher, Mr. Brosky.

He hopes to attend Western Michigan University in the fall.

The Wolves' record is currently 8-7-1. They play their crosstown rivals Lake Orion this Saturday at 8 p.m.at Detroit Skating Club, 888 Denison Court in Bloomfield Hills.
