May 29, 2013 - The Lady Wolves finished their season after a 12-9 loss against Waterford United in the first round of MHSAA Regionals last Thursday.

"Everyone played a very good game," said Clarkston Girls Varsity Lacrosse Coach Daneen Kincaid. "Our team played hard and refused to give up all night. We still had a few injuries plaguing us, but the girls continued to push through."

The game was tied 3-3 as the first half was close to ending. Waterford United tried to break the tie but junior goalie Sierra stopped them with two saves.

It was the Wolves to take the lead with two goals made in the last 30 seconds of the half.

The girls were one point behind as the game was nearing the end. With 55 seconds remaining senior Anna Gray ran in and scored to tie the game, 9-9.

Clarkston gained possession on the draw and took it into Waterford's turf. Gray shot the ball on the net before the buzzer and the referee ruled it as a goalie save sending the game into overtime.

Junior Sarah Hall led the team with five goals. Gray scored two during the night as sophomores Madeleine DeClercq and Lyndsey Pike scored one goal each. Pass made nine saves during the game.

"She did an incredible job," Kincaid added. "Our defense played strong and our midfielders and attacks did a very nice job with ball movement downfield."

The Lady Wolves finished the season with a 9-6 overall record, succeeding in their goal to improve upon last year's record.

"We only had five returning varsity players," Kincaid noted. "One of those key players, Lauren Sharkey, was sidelined for the last half of the season. The team did an incredible job this season. I'm very proud of how they encouraged each other and played as a team."
