June 05, 2013 - Lake Orion's defense and pitching stopped the Oxford Wildcats 6-1 Saturday, delievering the Dragons their second straight district crown.

Lake Orion Coach Andy Schramek said the team expected a tough game against the Wildcats, who beat the Dragons twice this season out of three games.

Oxford's top pitcher, Nate Morris, was on the mound. Morris had been injured and was just making his comeback.

Morris struggled with his command a little and was lifted in the fourth inning when the Wildcats were down, 3-1. Oxford got a run in the first inning, but it was all the Wildcats could muster as Brad Schnaezer pitched a complete game, three-hitter and struck out nine. Against Oxford, the Dragons scored one run in the first, two in the third, one in the fourth and two more in the fifth inning to put the game away.

Oxford road to the district finals went through Clarkston as the Wildcats thumped the Wolves in the semifinals 13-1.

Clarkston committed four errors and the Wildcats scored in nearly every way possible, including on four passed balls or wild pitches.

P.J. Piesko pitched a two-hitter to further frustrate the Wolves. Brennan Orr had three RBI for the Wildcats.

Former Leader Editor Dan Shriner will cover Wildcat football this season.
