Rivalry heats up

February 01, 2012 - The battle for the OAA Red league title against Lake Orion ended in defeat on Saturday night.

The Wolves lost 2-1 in an overtime battle with their cross town rivals in front of a packed house at Detroit Skating Club.

Both ended the first period tied at zero with the Wolves' defense keeping Lake Orion from scoring for most of the period.

Goalie Jack Viazanko held off 13 shots on the net as Clarkston put six on the Dragons' goalie.

Junior Adam Larkin scored in the second period when his shot bounced back into the net after his initial shot hit bounced off the goalie, hit a defense player and went into the net.

The game drew to a tie during the third period off a goal made from Lake Orion's David Otto.

Dragon Justin McKelvey scored the game clencher 1:15 into overtime.

Another loss to Howell, 3-0, last Thursday, put the boys 8-8-1 for the season.

They head to Lakeland Ice Arena on Wednesday to take on Waterford Mott, 5:20 p.m.

They head to the OAA-MAC Showcase on Saturday to play Macomb Dakota at the Onyx in Rochester, 6 p.m.
