Nominees for Citizen of the Year whittled to six

October 07, 2009 - The Orion Area Parade Group, in conjuntion with The Lake Orion Review is excited to present the nominations for The Citizens of the Year.

The Citizen of the Year, in its third year, honors one person whose service is singularly commendable in the past year. Next week The Reivew will annouce The Citizen of the Year.

Below are the outstanding people nominated.

David Mirku, a dedicated police department volunteer for over 47 years, with one focus - a safe community.

Michael Sweeney, a tireless volunteer, that gives unlimited hours to many causes, including the Historical Society and the Lions Club, among others

Robert Watros, driving force and volunteer of the Orion Veteran's Memorial, going beyond the call to keep the memorial in beautiful condition and assisting families in their search for loved veterans

Roland Zilka, given countless hours and manpower to remodel and repair village buildings

Larry Mullins, unwavering community commitment and services to many historical and grassroots causes

Kellie Vigilant, relentless volunteer for Lake Orion's Relay for Life and Lake Orion Schools, always giving more than ever expected.

The winner and the runners up will be honored in the forthcoming Orion Holiday Lighted Parade on December 5.
