December 30, 2009 - An Oxford native and star athlete received some national attention last week during his first college bowl game.

Zach Line, a 2008 OHS graduate who now plays for the Southern Methodist University Mustangs, scored a touchdown before a crowd of 32,650 in Aloha Stadium at the Hawaii Bowl Dec. 24.

The running back's moment in the sun came during the third quarter when he made a three-yard dash into the end zone to cap off a 90-yard drive by SMU.

Line's touchdown aided the Mustangs in their 45-10 rout of Nevada. It was SMU's first bowl victory since beating Notre Dame in 1984.

In January 2009, Line enrolled at SMU as a grayshirt. He's majoring in business and political science

Playing for the Mustangs this past season he rushed for 180 yards in 12 games and scored six touchdowns.

Folks may remember Line from his glory days at OHS where he received four varsity letters in football and another four in wrestling.

He capped off his high school athletic career by winning the George Prince Award, an honor reserved for the Best Male Senior Athlete and voted on by his peers.

While playing football for the Wildcats, Line had a team-high 154 tackles with eight forced fumbles and four recoveries. Under Coach Bud Rowley, he rushed for 1,723 yards and 17 touchdowns.
