19-year-old man drowns in lake Orion Township resident Jonathan Edward Harper, 19, drowned in Lake Orion after he fell from a pontoon boat about 150 yards from shore May 2 while on the lake with four other friends. Police praised two of Harper's friends, who jumped into the cold water in an attempt to assist him, as well as LO residents James and Julie Siwek, who were boating nearby and came to assist, possibly preventing additional drownings.

Chrysler's engines still running With world headquarters just a jaunt down the highway in Auburn Hills, Chrysler's bankruptcy announcement was even more immediate for Orion officials, Chrysler dealers and potential buyers.

Orion in orbit: the quest for Hubble begins The Space Shuttle Atlantis blasted through the sky over Cape Canaveral on Monday, May 11, carrying Drew Feustel, a 1983 Lake Orion High School graduate. Feustel was one of a seven-member crew bound for the Hubble Telescope.

Teens turned heroes on Lake Orion Lake Orion police announced plans to recognize Kelly Leachman, Ashley Freedman, Greg Latozas and Stephanie Malski, who made a "valiant effort" to save Jonathan Harper, 19, who fell in Lake Orion and drowned May 2.

School elections examined The Lake Orion Board of Education announced it was looking at reforming school elections after years of incurring election expenses, but said voting would probably continue to take place in May.

Milosch makes Chrysler's cut Chrysler announced it would close around 800 dealerships nationwide this summer, but when the ax fell, Orion's Palace Chrysler Jeep or Milosch Dodge were not on the list.

Board approves industrial district With the future of the GM plant up in the air, the Orion Township Board of Trustees approved establishment of an Industrial Development District (IDD) in an effort to lure viable businesses to the township. The board said the property could be more marketable with incentives such as tax abatements.

Is pole dance studio too risque for Orion? Despite the stagnant economy and the difficulty in keeping storefronts occupied, not everyone was happy when Elona Gano opened Wonder Women Pole Studio at 790 S. Lapeer Road.
