County clerk's Mobile Office rolls into Orion, Feb. 25

February 10, 2010 - The Mobile Office for the Oakland County Clerk and Register of Deeds Office heads to the Orion Township Public Library on Thursday, Feb. 25.

Residents of Orion, as well as those from surrounding areas, are welcome to use the service, said Oakland County Clerk Ruth Johnson.

"Our office in Pontiac can be a long way for people, especially with gas prices today," said Johnson. "We've put most of our services on our website, but we realize there are people without Internet access or those who may be more comfortable with personal service."

The Mobile Office, described as a "no-frills operation," is making one-day stops in each of the western, eastern, northern and southern portions of the county.

Employees set up shop in borrowed space with laptop computers and printers so they can provide customers with on-the-spot copies of birth certificates, death certificates or other public records.

Normal copy fees apply. The pilot project, modeled after a successful program in Macomb County, offers services such as:

·Certified Birth, Death and Marriage Records,

·Marriage License Applications

·Notary Public Applications

·Registration of Assumed Names/Co-Partnerships

·Military Discharge Forms

·Passport Applications & Photos

·Copies of Property Records and Deeds

·Oakland County Circuit Court Records

·Identity Protection Information

·Voter Registration

·Absentee Ballot Application Forms

·CP License
