May 05, 2010 - The Girls Varsity Track team continues to reign over the rest of the Flint Metro League after a dominating effort in their victories over Flint Kearsley and Lapeer West on Wednesday, May 5.

Oxford defeated Kearsley 101-36, and they nearly shut out Lapeer West, winning 133-4.

The Wildcats took first place in 16 out of 17 events against Kearsley. Kearsley's Shae Batten edged out Kate Wolanin by .10 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles in the only event the Wildcats would lose.

Oxford swept two events, the 1600 meter run and the 200 meter dash.

Brooke Kovacic won the 1600 run by 13 and a half seconds over teammate Ashley Burr and nearly 22 seconds over teammate Olivia Hernandez.

In the 200 meter dash, Keeona Ives beat out fellow Wildcats Michelle Gilmore and Anna Daves to claim top spot in the event.

The events were the long jump, shot put, discus, high jump, 100 meter hurdles, 100 meter dash, 1600 meter run, 300 meter low hurdles and 200 meter dash.

Oxford won every single event on the day against West, giving them a total 33 out of 34 possible first place victories in events between Kearsley and Lapeer West.

The boys wound up splitting their two events with Kearsley and Lapeer West.

They lost to Kearsley 86-51 and trounced Lapeer West 127-10.

Oxford was hanging tough with the Hornets throughout most of the meet, but Kearsley outscored Oxford 25-2 over three events, the 400 meter dash, the 300 meter intermediate hurdles and the 800 meter run, to pull away.

Chris Sachs won the long jump for Oxford, going 20 feet and two and three-quarter inches.

In the 110 meter hurdles, Aaron Stuk and Doug Klimball finished first and second, while Chris Rolle claimed first in the 100 meter dash. Rolle also claimed victory in the 200 meter dash.

The rout was on against Lapeer West as Oxford claimed victory in 16 of the 17 events that were held.

Sir Ralph Rodriguez won the shot put and discus throw, while Alex Pollack led his teammates in a sweep of the 1600 meter run. Curtis Kochel finished second and Dylan Smith was third in the event.
