June 09, 2010 - Joseph Ray Armstrong of Clarkston went to be with the Lord, June 6, 2010, after a short battle with cancer, at the age of 65.

Mr. Armstrong was treasurer of Clarkston Board of Education, stepping down this past March.

"It was an absolute pleasure working with Joe on the school board," said board President Steve Hyer. "Joe stepped up the plate and ran for school board to help kids. He was always putting kids first. In every decision, he brought an enthusiastic and positive attitude and enabled our district to consider innovative ideas and programs. He had a common sense approach and he was always a team player. He will be greatly missed by the school board and by our entire community. My condolences go out to his family."

"He had a quick sense of humor and always focused on the positive," said Anita Banach, communications director. "We were fortunate to have him represent our students and serve the district in this capacity. He will be greatly missed."

Board Vice President Sue Boatman sat next to Mr. Armstrong her first year on the board.

"I will miss his sense of humor and his insightful take on the issues we faced as a school board," Boatman said. "He was getting ready to retire as a teacher from West Bloomfield schools when he became ill. His life was too short and my condolences go out to his family and friends."

Mr. Armstrong was the husband of Linda for 36 years; father of Joshua, Troy (Jen Kirby), Rachel (Glen) Ferrell and Tyler; grandpa of Mavrik, Dallas and Arizoena; son of Esther (the late Chester) Armstrong of Davisburg; brother of Jim Armstrong , Kay (Gray) Counts and Debbie (Russ) Townley; son-in-law of Beverly Baumeister.

Funeral service Wednesday 11:00 a.m. Clarkston Free Methodist Church. Interment Wixom Cemetery. Any donations to the family will be used for Tyler's future college education.
