June 30, 2010 - Coffee hour

There will be a coffee hour at The Citizen, 12 South St., Ortonville, at 9 a.m., Friday, July 30. The public is welcome to attend and check out the new Ortonville 411 website. Details: 248-627-4332.

July Christmas

From 1 to 3:30 p.m., July 25, the Community Christmas Toy Store will host a charity picnic at the Brandon Township Park, 1414 Hadley Road. The picnic, which will include a barbecue, hotdogs, soda and snacks, will be held to recognize past supporters and to collect toys for Christmas distribution. The picnic is free, but the organization asks that attendees donate one unwrapped new toy per person. There will be games and an appearance from Santa Claus.

Fourth of July

The Citizen newspaper office will be closed July 5 in observance of the Fourth of July holiday. The office will reopen at 9 a.m. July 6. Details: 248-627-4332.

Body found

The body of a 33-year-old Brandon Township man was found in a field near the 700 block of E. Glass Road around 3:30 p.m. June 26.

The man's girlfriend, who reported him missing to police at 11:45 p.m., June 25, made the discovery. She had last seen him at about 10 p.m., June 23 at a residence near the field where he was found. The subject had been drinking and she became concerned after he did not return and she found her handgun missing.

According to police reports, the man was found with a gunshot wound to the head and the gun was recovered at the scene. It appeared the man had been there for a period of time.
