July 14, 2010 - There will be a coffee hour at 9 a.m., Friday, July 30, at The Citizen, 12 South St. Ortonville. The public is welcome to attend and check out the new Ortonville 411 website. Details: 248-627-4332.Coffee hourJuly is about more than heat waves this year. It's about presents.

A community charity picnic will take place from 1 p.m.-3:30 p.m. on July 25 at the Brandon Township Community Park, 1414 N. Hadley Road, to celebrate Christmas in July. The cost of admission is one unwrapped new toy per person, which will be donated to families with unemployed parents.

"The increase in unemployment is really sad," said Betty Stewart, president of the Community Christmas Toy Store. "We're concerned more children with parents struggling will have trouble come Christmas."

Christmas in JulyJust as a two-month project to resurface M-15 through most of Atlas Township comes to an end, a second project through Goodrich is soon to begin.

Phil Sekela, of the Michigan Department of Transportation—Davison, said on July 19 a total of 1.57 miles of M-15 through the Village of Goodrich will be milled and resurfaced. In addition, sidewalk ramps meeting new standards for pedestrian accessibility in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, sidewalk repairs, and curb and gutter maintenance will be completed. Most of the work will be done at night. The project should be completed by Aug. 21 and is paid for by both federal and state funds.
