August 18, 2010 - In addition to jousting, sword fighting and Medieval dress, Renaissance Festival visitors can help neighbors in need.

Lighthouse of Oakland County serves as an official charity of the festival, weekends starting Aug. 21 in Holly.

On Aug. 21-22 and 28-29, and Sept. 4-6, Lighthouse will collect nonperishable canned and boxed goods for its Independence Township food pantry. Patrons receive a discount on admission for donations.

Lighthouse Emergency Services, which runs the effort, also needs volunteers to work three-hour shifts to help.

All volunteers receive a free ticket and food vouchers.

Call Tricia Pulis at Lighthouse for more information, 248-920-6000.
