September 01, 2010 - Coffee hour

Labor Day

The Citizen will be closed on Monday Sept. 6 for Labor Day. The office will reopen 9 a.m., Sept. 7. Details: 248-627-4332.

New school board member

The Goodrich School Board voted 4-2 Wednesday night to appoint David Cramer to replace James Bertrand, who resigned last month. Cramer, who has two children in the district will serve until June 10, 2011. No votes were Doug Tetmeyer and Linda Jackson.

Asst. principal

Celeste Nowacki is the new assistant principal at Brandon High School, replacing Jerry Warner, who retired this summer.

The University of Michigan graduate who has a master's degree from Wayne State University, taught high school English and Spanish in Trenton for seven years before accepting an assistant principal position at John Glenn High School in the Wayne-Westland Community Schools for two years.

Grand opening

On Sept. 10-12, the Ortonville Ace Hardware, 440 N. Ortonville Road, will host a grand opening. From noon- 3 p.m., professional chainsaw woodcarver Gary Etzerman will host a demonstration Friday 8 a.m.-8 p.m., Sat. 8 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Details: 248-627-9217.


At 7 p.m., Sept. 7, the Ortonville Historical Society will meet at The Old Mill located near Mill and South streets in Oronville. Groveland Township resident Ann Audet will discuss genealogy and how to research your past. Details: Dean Sally 248-627-2185.

Chamber mixer

From 5:30-8 p.m. on Sept 14, the Ortonville Chamber of Commerce will host a mixer at the Village Pub, 411 Mill St., Ortonville. The event will cost $15 with RSVP by Sept 10 or $20 at the door. A great chance to network with local businesses. There will be dinner and entertainment on the patio, along with drink specials, prizes and more. Bring a door prize for a chance to highlight your business. RSVP to the Ortonville Chamber at 248-627-8079.

Chamber golf scramble

At noon, Oct 1 at the Davison Country Club, the Last Chance Golf Scramble will be held. The sign-up fee is $75 per person if received by Sept 15, otherwise the fee is $85 per person. Business teams can sign up with 4 players and a chance to sponser a hole for $350. To sign up as a corporate sponser, the fee is $500 and includes the business team of 4 players, a free ad on the chamber website for a month and promotion at the golf event. Individuals may also sponser a hole for a fee of $100. Dinner will be 6 p.m. and is welcome to non-golfers for $40 per person. Prizes will be awarded for longest drive in mens and womens and 3 closest-to-the-pin holes. Details: 248-625-5222.
